Abigail Disney, heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed her support, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has stepped aside and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.

Earlier this month, Disney had declared her intention to halt contributions to the party until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket. At that time, she publicly backed Harris, emphasizing the need for the Democratic Party to unite around the Vice President. Disney remarked, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s… and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney’s previous decision to withdraw her financial backing came after a disastrous debate performance by Biden against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from influential donors and the decline in financial support played a significant role in Biden’s decision to exit the race. Additionally, prominent Democratic donors such as George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also announced their endorsement of Harris following Biden’s withdrawal.
