Abigail Disney Revives Donations Amid Political Shake-Up: What’s Next for Kamala Harris?

Abigail Disney, the heiress whose grandfather co-founded The Walt Disney Company, announced that she plans to resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from his reelection campaign. Earlier this month, Disney had declared her intention to halt contributions until the party replaced Biden as its nominee.

In an email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her renewed support, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” as Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency. When she initially chose to withhold donations, Disney publicly expressed her backing for Harris, emphasizing the need for the Democratic Party to support the Vice President more robustly.

Disney remarked, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Her criticism of Biden followed a disappointing debate performance against former President Donald Trump, which led to unrest among the party’s elite donors. Reports indicate that pressure from major contributors and a diminishing flow of funds played a role in Biden’s decision to step aside. Notably, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also voiced their support for Harris after Biden’s announcement.
