Abigail Disney Revives Donations After Biden’s Exit: What’s Next for the Democrats?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection.

Disney, whose grandfather co-founded The Walt Disney Company, previously stated that she would halt any contributions to the party until a change was made at the top of the ticket. In an email to CNBC, she confirmed her renewed support, mentioning that she would back Vice President Kamala Harris, who has now been endorsed by Biden following his exit from the race.

When Disney initially declared her intention to withhold donations, she expressed her support for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several elite donors within the Democratic Party who turned against Biden after his underwhelming debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from key donors played a role in Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Notably, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also endorsed Harris following Biden’s announcement.
