Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to end his reelection campaign.
Earlier this month, Disney had stated she would halt her contributions to the party until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket. However, after Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency, she confirmed in an email to CNBC that she would restart her support.
When she initially declared her intention to stop donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, remarking, “We have an excellent Vice President.” She emphasized that if the Democratic Party could support Harris with the same fervor as they had tolerated Biden’s perceived shortcomings, they would have a strong chance of winning the upcoming election.
Disney’s dissatisfaction with Biden followed his underwhelming debate performance against former President Donald Trump, which contributed to her decision to withhold support. Reports indicate that pressure from major Democratic donors and dwindling financial backing played a role in persuading Biden to exit the race. Following Biden’s announcement, influential donors like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also voiced their support for Harris.
