Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has officially dropped his reelection campaign.
Earlier this month, Disney stated she would halt any contributions until the party replaced Biden as the presidential candidate. In a Monday email to CNBC, she confirmed her decision to support the party again, following Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.
When she initially decided to withhold donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, emphasizing the need for Democrats to unite behind her. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s… and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she remarked.
Disney was among a group of prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after what they considered a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from this donor class contributed to Biden’s decision to step back from the race.
George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also expressed their support for Harris following Biden’s announcement of his withdrawal from the election.
