Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has exited the race for reelection. Disney, whose grandfather co-founded The Walt Disney Company, previously declared she would halt contributions until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket.
In an email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her decision, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor. Earlier, when she announced her intention to stop donations, Disney expressed solidarity with Harris, praising her capabilities and urging the Democratic Party to support her.
“We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she remarked.
Disney was among several elite donors in the Democratic Party who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from donors and diminishing financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Following Biden’s announcement, prominent donors like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris.
