Abigail Disney Revives Donations: A New Era for Democratic Support?

Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, announced that she will restart her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has exited the race for reelection. Earlier this month, she declared that she would halt her contributions until Biden was replaced as the candidate.

In a recent email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her renewed support, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s decision to withdraw and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his preferred successor.

When she initially decided to withhold contributions, Disney expressed her support for Harris, praising her as an excellent Vice President. She criticized the Democratic Party for not embracing Harris in the same way it has tolerated Biden, suggesting that bias related to race and gender influenced this disparity. Disney urged Democrats to rally around Harris to secure a substantial victory in the upcoming election.

Disney was among a group of significant Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden, particularly after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that the frustration from the donor community and a lack of funding contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw. Following Biden’s announcement, notable figures like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris.
