Heiress Abigail Disney announced she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party after President Joe Biden officially dropped out of the presidential race.
Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, had previously stated she would halt her contributions until the party replaced Biden as their nominee. However, following Biden’s exit and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency, Disney confirmed in an email to CNBC that she is back to supporting the party.
When she initially decided to stop her donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even a fraction as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney was among a group of prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that the pressure from high-profile donors and a decline in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.
Notably, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their support for Harris after Biden’s announcement.
