Abigail Disney Revives Democratic Donations: What Changed?

Heiress Abigail Disney announced she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to step down from his reelection campaign. Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, previously declared she would halt contributions until the party nominated a new candidate.

In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her support has resumed now that Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president. Earlier, Disney had expressed her support for Harris, urging the Democratic Party to unite behind her.

“We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she stated.

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from wealthy donors and a decline in financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.

Additionally, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also endorsed Harris after Biden’s announcement.
