Abigail Disney Revives Democratic Donations as Biden Bows Out: What’s Next?

Abigail Disney, an heiress and member of the family that co-founded The Walt Disney Company, announced her decision to resume donations to the Democratic Party after President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race.

Earlier this month, Disney had stated she would halt contributions until the party replaced Biden as its nominee. However, in an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her return to supporting the Democrats now that Biden has decided to step aside and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.

When she first declared her intention to withhold donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, praising her as an excellent Vice President. She noted the disparity in how the party has accepted Biden’s perceived shortcomings compared to those of Harris, suggesting that if Democrats could unite behind her, they could secure a victory in the upcoming election.

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden, particularly following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from major donors and a depletion of funding contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.

Notably, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also shown their support for Harris in light of Biden’s exit from the campaign.
