Abigail Disney Revives Democratic Donations Amid Political Shakeup

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to exit the 2024 presidential race. Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, had previously stated she would halt contributions until Biden stepped down from the campaign.

In an email to CNBC on Monday, Disney confirmed her return to supporting the party, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has opted to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

When Disney initially decided to pause her donations, she expressed her backing for Harris. She commented on the situation, saying, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among a group of major Democratic donors who became frustrated with Biden following a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from wealthy donors and dwindling funds contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Notable figures like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed support for Harris after the announcement of Biden’s exit.
