Abigail Disney Revives Democratic Donations Amid Biden’s Exit: What’s Next for Harris?

Abigail Disney, the heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race.

Disney had previously stated that she would withhold contributions until there was a change at the top of the ticket. She expressed her support for Vice President Kamala Harris shortly after Biden’s announcement, stating in an email to CNBC, “Yes, I will resume supporting” now that Biden has left the race and endorsed Harris.

Previously, Disney criticized the Democratic Party for its treatment of Harris, suggesting that the party’s willingness to overlook Biden’s perceived shortcomings was rooted in issues of race and gender. She expressed confidence in Harris’s ability to lead, asserting that the party needs to unite behind her to achieve electoral success.

Disney was not alone in her discontent with Biden; her stance reflected a broader unease among elite Democratic donors following Biden’s poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from these donors contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Following Biden’s announcement, notable figures like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for the presidency.
