Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, has announced her intention to resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris.
Earlier this month, Disney had stated that she would halt contributions to the party until a new candidate was chosen. In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed her renewed support, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has exited the race in favor of Harris.
During her previous announcement to withhold funding, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, emphasizing the Vice President’s strengths. She remarked, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s… and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden, particularly after his poor debate performance against Donald Trump. Reports suggest that the pressure from party donors and dwindling financial support played a role in Biden’s decision to step aside.
Notable Democratic supporters, including billionaire George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also endorsed Harris following the announcement of Biden’s withdrawal.
