Abigail Disney Reverses Donation Freeze After Biden’s Exit: What Changed?

Abigail Disney, the heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection.

Earlier this month, Disney had declared she would halt any contributions to the party until a change in leadership occurred at the top of the ticket. However, following Biden’s announcement that he is endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for president, she confirmed in an email to CNBC that she would once again provide support.

In her previous statement regarding her decision to withhold donations, she expressed her backing for Harris. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she stated.

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who grew dissatisfied with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from this donor class played a role in Biden’s choice to withdraw from the race. Additionally, financier George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also expressed their support for Harris after Biden’s announcement.
