Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will restart her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to run for reelection.
Disney, the granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, previously stated earlier this month that she would cease her contributions to the party unless Biden stepped aside. Following Biden’s withdrawal and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency, Disney confirmed her change of heart in an email to CNBC on Monday, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting.”
In her initial announcement regarding her halted donations, Disney had expressed her support for Harris. She remarked, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Abigail Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed discontent with Biden after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from major donors and dwindling financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Following Biden’s announcement, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also pledged their support for Harris.
