Abigail Disney, the heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that she will resume her financial support for the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to run for reelection. Earlier this month, Disney stated that she would cease her contributions until the party replaced Biden at the top of the ticket.
In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed her decision to support the party again, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s exit and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for president.
When she first announced her plan to halt donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, praising her as an exemplary Vice President. She lamented that if party members could tolerate any of Harris’s perceived flaws as much as they had tolerated Biden’s, the Democrats would have a strong chance of winning the upcoming election.
Disney’s withdrawal of support was part of a broader backlash from prominent Democratic donors after Biden’s poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that the pressure from these major donors contributed to Biden’s decision to step aside. Following Biden’s announcement, notable figures such as George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their endorsement for Harris.
