Heiress Abigail Disney announced she will resume her financial support for the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race.
Earlier this month, Disney stated that she would halt contributions to the party until a new candidate replaced Biden at the top of the ticket. However, in an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her decision to recommit her support following Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
When she initially decided to withhold donations, Disney also expressed her backing for Harris. She praised the Vice President, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney is among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed frustration with Biden, especially after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that dissatisfaction from high-profile donors contributed to Biden’s decision to step down from the race.
Notably, financier George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also endorsed Kamala Harris following Biden’s exit from the presidential contest.
