Abigail Disney, the heiress and granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that she will resume her financial support for the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race. Disney had previously stated that she would halt her contributions until Biden was replaced as the frontrunner.
In a message to CNBC, Disney confirmed her decision, saying, “Yes, I will resume supporting.” She now backs Vice President Kamala Harris, who Biden has endorsed following his exit.
When she initially declared her intention to pause donations, Disney expressed her confidence in Harris, remarking, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s… and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed their dissatisfaction with Biden after a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that mounting pressure from major donors and dwindling financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to step aside. George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also voiced their support for Harris after Biden’s announcement.
