Abigail Disney, the heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to not seek reelection. Earlier this month, Disney had stated she would cease her contributions until the party replaced Biden as their nominee.
In a recent email to CNBC, Disney confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has stepped aside and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president. When she initially declared her intention to withhold donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, emphasizing, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who became frustrated with Biden’s performance, particularly after his lackluster debate against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from the donor class and a decrease in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Following Biden’s announcement, both George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their support for Harris.
