Abigail Disney Reverses Course: Donor Support for Harris Surges

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection.

Earlier this month, Disney stated she would cease any contributions to the party until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket. In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s decision to step aside and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential candidacy.

At the time of her initial announcement, Disney had already expressed her support for Harris, highlighting the Vice President’s capabilities. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she noted.

Disney was among a group of high-profile Democratic donors who distanced themselves from Biden after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from major donors and a decline in financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their backing for Harris following the announcement of Biden’s exit.
