Abigail Disney Reverses Course: Donor Dilemma Sparks Support for Harris

Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Earlier this month, Disney stated she would suspend contributions to the party until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket. Following Biden’s exit and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for president, Disney confirmed her support in an email to CNBC, saying, “Yes, I will resume supporting.”

When she initially declared her intent to halt donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, praising her as an excellent Vice President. She criticized the Democratic Party for not supporting Harris as strongly as they have Biden, noting issues related to race and gender. Disney argued that if the party could unite behind Harris, they could significantly increase their chances of winning the election.

Disney was among a group of elite Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from high-profile donors and reduced fundraising contributed to Biden’s decision to exit the race. Following Biden’s announcement, notable figures like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Kamala Harris.
