Abigail Disney Reverses Course: Donates to Democrats After Biden’s Exit

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection.

Earlier this month, Disney stated she would cease her contributions to the party unless Biden stepped aside from the top of the ticket. In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her decision to support the party again, citing Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

While announcing her decision to withhold donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, emphasizing the need for the Democratic Party to unite behind the Vice President. She noted, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several influential Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden’s performance, particularly following a troubling debate against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from major donors and dwindling financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to step back.

Notably, billionaire George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also voiced their support for Harris following Biden’s withdrawal from the race.
