Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her financial support for the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has exited the race for reelection.
In a recent poll by Coinbase, it was revealed that Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are in a tight race for the support of cryptocurrency voters.
Earlier this month, Disney, whose grandfather co-founded The Walt Disney Company, indicated she would halt her contributions to the Democratic Party unless Biden was replaced as the nominee. In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her decision to support the party again following Biden’s withdrawal and his endorsement of Harris for president.
When she first announced her intention to withhold donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s, and if they can unite around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed discontent with Biden following his poor debate performance against Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from these donors and diminishing funds contributed to Biden’s decision to step back from the race.
Notably, philanthropist George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also endorsed Harris following Biden’s announcement.
