Abigail Disney Resumes Support for Democrats: What’s Behind Her Shift?

Abigail Disney, an heiress and descendant of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, announced that she will resume her financial support for the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has exited the race for reelection.

Earlier this month, Disney had declared that she would pause her contributions until the party replaced Biden as the presidential candidate. In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her decision to resume donations, noting that Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor influenced her choice.

When she initially decided to halt her donations, Disney also expressed her support for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s… and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden, particularly in response to his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from the donor class and a decline in funding were significant factors that led to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.

Additionally, notable Democratic figures, including George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also voiced their support for Harris following Biden’s withdrawal.
