Abigail Disney Resumes Support: A New Era for the Democrats?

Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will resume her financial support for the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to run for reelection.

Earlier this month, Disney, who is the granddaughter of one of The Walt Disney Company’s co-founders, declared that she would halt her donations until Biden was replaced at the top of the party’s ticket. In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed her renewed support, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for president.

At the time of her previous announcement to withhold donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), we can win this election by a lot,” she remarked.

Disney was among several elite Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from major donors and a decline in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to step aside. Both George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also voiced their support for Harris in light of Biden’s withdrawal from the race.
