Abigail Disney Resumes Support: A Game-Changer for Harris?

Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that she will resume her financial support for the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has withdrawn his candidacy for reelection. Disney stated earlier this month that she would halt donations until Biden left the race.

In a recent email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her decision, saying, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has stepped aside and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential candidacy. She previously expressed her support for Harris, highlighting the Vice President’s qualifications.

Disney noted, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Her decision to withdraw support from Biden was in response to his poor debate performance against Donald Trump, reflecting a broader discontent among major Democratic donors. Reports suggest that pressure from the donor community played a significant role in Biden’s decision to exit the race.

In addition to Disney, prominent donors such as George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also backed Harris in light of Biden’s withdrawal.
