Abigail Disney Resumes Donations: What’s Next for the Democratic Party?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided to end his reelection campaign.

Disney, whose grandfather co-founded The Walt Disney Company, had previously stated her intention to withhold contributions until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket. In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” after Biden’s announcement to step down and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for president.

When she initially decided to halt her donations, Disney also expressed her support for Harris. She remarked, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several elite Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from major donors and declining financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.

Following Biden’s announcement, notable figures such as George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris.
