Abigail Disney Resumes Donations to Democrats: What Changed?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will be reinstating her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to run for reelection.

Earlier this month, Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, stated that she would cease any contributions to the party until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket. In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her support would resume following Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

When she initially declared her decision to halt donations, Disney expressed strong support for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among numerous elite Democratic donors who became dissatisfied with Biden after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from major donors and a decline in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.

Notably, prominent Democratic donor George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their support for Harris following the announcement of Biden’s exit.
