Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she intends to resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to forgo his reelection campaign.
Earlier this month, Disney stated her intention to halt contributions until a new candidate replaced Biden as the party’s nominee. In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has stepped aside and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.
When she initially made her pledge to withhold funds, Disney expressed her support for Harris, emphasizing the Vice President’s capabilities. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would accept her perceived shortcomings even a fraction as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she stated.
Disney was among several high-profile Democratic donors who became frustrated with Biden after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from the donor class and dwindling funds contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Following Biden’s announcement, prominent figures like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also expressed their endorsement of Harris.
