Heiress Abigail Disney announced she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race.
Disney, a member of the family that co-founded The Walt Disney Co., previously declared that she would halt her contributions until Biden was replaced at the top of the Democratic ticket. In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed her renewed support, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s exit and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.
When she first announced her decision to stop donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, commenting on the strengths of the Vice President. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she said.
Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who criticized Biden after a disappointing debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from these donors and a decrease in campaign funds contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw.
Following the news of Biden’s exit, billionaire George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their support for Kamala Harris.
