Abigail Disney Resumes Donations Amid Kamala Harris’s Presidential Bid

Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that she will restart her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. In her earlier statement, Disney had declared she would suspend contributions until Biden was replaced at the top of the Democratic ticket.

In a recent email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her support, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president. When she initially halted her donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, emphasizing the Vice President’s qualifications.

Disney pointed out that if the Democratic Party were to embrace Harris with the same understanding and support as they’ve extended to Biden—highlighting issues of race and gender inequalities—it could significantly enhance their chances in the upcoming election.

Her dissatisfaction with Biden was shared by several influential Democratic donors, who became vocal after what they perceived as a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that the pressure from this donor class contributed to Biden’s decision to step aside. Notably, prominent financiers like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also backed Harris following Biden’s withdrawal from the race.
