Abigail Disney Resumes Donations Amid Biden’s Departure: What’s Next for Harris?

Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the presidential race.

Disney, the granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, previously stated that she would halt contributions until Biden was replaced as the party’s candidate. In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed her support, saying, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for president.

When Disney first declared her intention to withhold donations, she expressed her support for Harris, highlighting her qualifications. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she stated.

Disney was among several elite Democratic donors who expressed discontent with Biden after his lackluster debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from the donor class and diminished funding were factors that influenced Biden’s decision to step back from the race.

Additionally, prominent Democratic donor George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris following Biden’s announcement.
