Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will once again donate to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has officially exited the race for reelection.
Earlier this month, Disney, whose grandfather played a key role in founding The Walt Disney Company, stated that she would halt any contributions to the party until Biden was no longer the nominee.
In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed her decision to resume support following Biden’s withdrawal and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.
When she initially decided to freeze her donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, emphasizing the Vice President’s capabilities. She remarked that if Democrats could overlook any of Harris’s perceived flaws as readily as they have done with Biden, they could secure a substantial victory in the forthcoming election.
Disney was among several high-profile Democratic donors who reacted strongly against Biden after what many viewed as a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from influential donors and a decrease in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to step aside.
Notably, philanthropist George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their support for Harris following the announcement of Biden’s exit from the race.
