Abigail Disney Resumes Donations: A Shift in Democratic Support?

Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that she will resume her financial contributions to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection.

Earlier this month, Disney had stated that she would halt her donations until Biden was replaced as the party’s nominee. Following Biden’s withdrawal and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency, she confirmed via email to CNBC that she would resume her support.

When she first declared her decision to withhold funds, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, highlighting the Vice President’s capabilities. She criticized the party for not supporting Harris as strongly as they did Biden, suggesting that issues related to race and gender play a role in the differences in support.

Disney has been one of several prominent Democratic donors who have expressed dissatisfaction with Biden, particularly after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that the pressure from major donors, along with dwindling financial support, contributed to Biden’s decision to exit the race.

Notably, billionaire George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also pledged their support for Harris following Biden’s announcement.
