Abigail Disney Resumes Donations: A New Era for Democrats?

Heiress Abigail Disney announced she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to not seek reelection. Disney, whose grandfather co-founded The Walt Disney Company, previously stated she would suspend her contributions until a new candidate took Biden’s place at the top of the ticket.

In a recent email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her return to political donations, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has exited the race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president.

When she first revealed her intention to withhold donations, Disney publicly supported Harris, emphasizing the Vice President’s qualifications. She remarked, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s… we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after what they perceived as a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from major donors and a decline in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.

Notably, financier George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also backed Harris following the announcement of Biden’s departure from the presidential contest.
