Abigail Disney Resumes Democratic Donations: What’s Behind the Change?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will reinstate her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris.

Disney, whose grandfather helped establish The Walt Disney Company, previously stated earlier this month that she would cease contributions until there was a change at the top of the ticket. In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her intention to resume support now that Biden has exited the race.

When she initially declared her decision to halt donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris. She remarked, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several elite Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden following what was seen as a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from the donor community and dwindling financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to step back.

Notably, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also voiced their endorsement for Harris after the announcement of Biden’s withdrawal.
