Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. In an email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her renewed support, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” after Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
Earlier this month, Disney had declared she would halt any contributions to the party until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket. She had also publicly expressed her endorsement of Harris at that time. “We have an excellent Vice President,” Disney noted, adding that if the Democratic Party could rally behind Harris and overlook her perceived shortcomings—much like they have with Biden—it could lead to a significant victory in the upcoming election.
Disney’s previous decision to withdraw support came after Biden’s poor performance in a debate against former President Donald Trump, which caused frustration among many elite donors within the Democratic Party. Reports suggest that pressure from these donors, alongside a decline in funding, contributed to Biden’s choice to step back from the race.
Following Biden’s announcement, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their endorsement for Harris.
