Abigail Disney Restarts Donations as Biden Steps Aside for Harris

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced plans to resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection. Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, previously stated that she would halt contributions until Biden was replaced at the top of the party ticket.

In an email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her support, saying, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has stepped aside and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor. She had previously expressed her backing for Harris amidst her decision to withhold donations.

Disney remarked on Harris’s qualifications, emphasizing, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

She was among several prominent Democratic donors who grew frustrated with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from wealthy donors and a decrease in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to exit the race.

Notably, billionaire George Soros and his son Alex Soros have also endorsed Harris following Biden’s announcement.
