Abigail Disney Rejoins Democratic Party Donors: What Changed?

Abigail Disney, an heiress and activist, has announced her intention to resume contributions to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the presidential race. Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, previously stated that she would cease all donations until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket.

In a recent email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her change of heart, saying, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor. Earlier, when she decided to stop her donations, Disney had expressed her support for Harris, highlighting the Vice President’s capabilities and urging the Democratic Party to rally behind her.

Disney pointed out the inequities in the party’s support for women and people of color, stating, “If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s… we can win this election by a lot.”

Her previous decision to withhold contributions was part of a broader backlash from prominent Democratic donors against Biden, which some sources suggest influenced his decision to exit the race. Notable Democratic figures, including George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their support for Harris following Biden’s announcement.
