Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party after President Joe Biden withdrew his reelection bid. Disney, whose grandfather helped establish The Walt Disney Company, previously stated that she would cease contributions until Biden stepped down as the party’s nominee.
In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed her decision to reinstate financial support, now that Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency. Earlier this month, when she chose to halt her donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris.
“We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” Disney remarked.
She was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from wealthy donors and a decline in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to exit the race. Notably, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also voiced their support for Harris following Biden’s announcement.
