Abigail Disney Rejoins Democratic Fundraising After Biden’s Exit: What’s Next?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her financial support for the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has ended his reelection campaign.

Earlier this month, Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, stated that she would cease all contributions to the party until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket.

In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s withdrawal and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential nomination.

When she initially declared her decision to halt donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, highlighting the Vice President’s qualifications. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she remarked.

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed discontent with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from high-profile donors and a decline in contributions contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.

In addition, billionaire investor George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris after Biden’s announcement.
