Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will restart her donations to the Democratic Party after President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection. Earlier this month, Disney, the granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, declared she would halt contributions until the party replaced Biden as the frontrunner.
In an email on Monday, she confirmed to CNBC, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor. At the time of her initial decision, Disney expressed her support for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed frustration with Biden following his poor performance in debates against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that increasing pressure from donors and diminishing financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Following Biden’s announcement, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also declared their endorsement of Harris.
