Abigail Disney Rejoins Democratic Donors: What’s Behind Her Shift?

Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection.

Earlier this month, Disney had stated she would halt contributions until Biden was replaced as the party’s candidate. However, in an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her support for the party again, following Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his preferred successor for the presidency.

When she initially decided to withhold donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, praising her as an outstanding Vice President. She commented on the need for the Democratic Party to rally behind Harris, highlighting that if the party were to support her with the same fervor they had shown Biden, they could secure a significant victory in the upcoming election.

Disney was among several high-profile Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden, particularly after what was perceived as a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from donors and a decline in funding played a role in Biden’s decision not to run for reelection. Notably, financier George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also voiced their support for Harris following Biden’s announcement.
