Abigail Disney Rejoins Democratic Donors: What’s Behind Her Change of Heart?

Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has stepped aside from his reelection campaign.

Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, previously stated that she would halt all contributions until Biden was replaced at the top of the party ticket. In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her decision to support the party again, citing Biden’s withdrawal and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.

When Disney initially declared her intention to stop donations, she expressed her support for Harris, noting the Vice President’s qualifications. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she stated.

Disney is among numerous prominent Democratic donors who expressed discontent with Biden, particularly following his lackluster debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that the pressure from major donors and dwindling funds contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Additionally, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also voiced their support for Harris following the announcement of Biden’s exit.
