Abigail Disney Rejoins Democratic Donors: What Changed?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced her intention to resume donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection.

Earlier this month, Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, stated that she would cease contributions to the party until Biden was replaced as the top candidate. In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

At the time of her earlier announcement, Disney expressed her support for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), we can win this election by a lot,” she remarked.

Disney was among many high-profile Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden following what was deemed a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from the donor class and a decrease in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to step aside.

Notably, financier George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also shown support for Harris following Biden’s announcement.
