Abigail Disney Rejoins Democratic Donors: What Changed?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to run for reelection.

Disney, the granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, had previously stated she would halt her contributions until Biden was replaced as the party’s nominee. However, in an email to CNBC, she confirmed her renewed support, noting that she would contribute again following Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

When Disney first announced her decision to stop donations, she also expressed her support for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney’s decision to withhold support was echoed by several high-profile Democratic donors after Biden’s lackluster debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that the pressure from these donors and a dwindling financial support system contributed to Biden’s decision to step back from the race. Following Biden’s announcement, prominent figures like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also voiced their endorsement for Harris.
