Abigail Disney Rejoins Democratic Donors Post-Biden’s Exit: What’s Next?

Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, announced that she plans to resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has ended his reelection campaign.

Recently, Disney had stated she would halt any contributions to the party until a new candidate replaced Biden at the forefront of the ticket. In an email to CNBC, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s decision to withdraw and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.

When she initially decided to withhold her donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris. She remarked, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among a group of prominent Democratic donors who reacted negatively to Biden’s lackluster debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from major donors and a decrease in funding played a role in Biden’s decision to step back from the race. Following Biden’s withdrawal, both George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris.
