Abigail Disney Rejoins Democratic Donors as Biden Steps Aside

Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to run for reelection.

Earlier this month, Disney, the granddaughter of one of The Walt Disney Company’s co-founders, stated that she would halt any contributions until Biden was replaced at the top of the Democratic ticket. In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her decision to support the party again, now that Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.

Disney had previously thrown her support behind Harris when she announced her intent to withhold donations. She expressed confidence in Harris’s capabilities, urging Democrats to rally behind her: “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s… we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from the donor class and dwindling funds contributed to Biden’s decision to step aside. Notably, philanthropic investor George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also showed their support for Harris following the news of Biden’s withdrawal from the race.
