Abigail Disney, an heiress and granddaughter of a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has exited the presidential race. Earlier this month, Disney had stated that she would halt her contributions until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket.
In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed her decision to support the party again, now that Biden has stepped down and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor. Following her initial announcement to withhold donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, highlighting the Vice President’s potential to lead.
Disney stated, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney’s discontent with Biden rose after what many viewed as a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump, leading to unrest among high-profile Democratic donors. Reports suggest that pressure from these donors contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Following this development, other prominent donors such as George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their support for Harris.
