Abigail Disney Rejoins Democratic Donors After Biden’s Surprising Exit

Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will resume her financial support for the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection.

Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, had declared earlier this month that she would cease her contributions to the party until Biden stepped aside. In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her return to donating, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s decision to withdraw and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

When Disney initially withheld her donations, she expressed her backing for Harris. She remarked, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several high-profile Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that the pressure from the donor class and a decline in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to step back from the race.

Notably, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris following the announcement of Biden’s withdrawal.
